TRANQUIL ARRANGEMENTS
Tranquil arrangements is an investigation into the way in which design could be beneficial - allowing people to engage in contemplation and reflection.
Fenestration – the arrangement of windows have inspired these samples. On recent outings windows seemed to provide a logical and systematic visual; a visual anchor almost, in environments that at present seem overwhelmed by design and colour. Windows are of intrigue due to the way in which they allow light and air to pass through rooms; a means to see but not be seen; an iconic source of thought and observation and how they can be utilised to create the illusion of bringing the outside in.
Laser cutting and perforation have been used on papers and laminated fabrics to explore these observations resulting in delicate samples intended for interior applications. Kirigami (pop-up designs) is also a focus of exploration in this project. The 3-d forms that can be created allow for a 'visual texture', movement and an element of interaction where users can fold piece's - an ideal space saving solution.
This project has also been created solely in white - It is a colour that epitomises the concept of thought and tranquility and it is perfect to create designs that will void interiors of visual clutter.
